So in just over 24hrs I’ll be on a plane on my way to Nairobi via Amsterdam. At this point I’m all kinds of nervous, but I don’t know if it’s excitement and scared nervousness. I’ve made numerous lists to make sure I have everything covered and I’ve managed to cross out 98% of is, just a couple odds and ends to clean up. I’ve laid out everything I have to pack and it looks like they’ll fit in my pack with room to spare. Which is good because I plan to pick up a few items while I’m away.
The interesting thing about my packs is that I think my ‘day’ pack will weigh almost as much as my travel bag. Mainly because camera equipment isn’t light. I find it amusing that as photography gets more technically advanced the more you have to carry! Before I just had to carry a camera body, a couple lenses and a bunch of film. Now I have a camera body, lenses, memory cards, battery chargers, digital back devices, cords, etc. Mind you part of the problem is that my lenses and cameras are more “pro” which means they’re bigger and heavier, but since I’m going on this trip to document it for the charity, I’m packing some extra stuff because I don’t want to fuck it up.
