Well this past weekend I was just outside Pittsburgh for yet another tournament and the last stage of my tryouts for BMF. For some reason that car I was going down in decided to leave Toronto during the evening rush hour, so we faced traffic all the way to the border. Boo to that. We later realized we could have saved about an hour to an hour and a half travel time had we left after rush hour. I was definately a smooth right down, unlike one of the other team cars that actually hit/clipped a deer on a rental car. Drama anyone?

As for the tournament, we ended up coming in second. There was better competition at this tourny then Guelph the weekend before but we also play a lot better. Our only true fight was in the finals against Animal from Philly. While they played a good game, it was ours to lose. We were down 8-5 at halftime but managed to go ahead 12-11 in the second half. After that we had a few mental farts and ended up losing the game 14-12. So that’s two years in a row that BMF has lost in the finals. Third time lucky?

But more importantly is that this was the last stage of the tryout for the team. Personally I’m really happy with how I played, expecially on the second day, I was laying out more and getting good d-stops. I was also doing less stupid passes and such. All in all, I’m pleased with the performance that I’ve given. I kond of have to be b/c I never expected to make it this far in the tryout. I’ve managed to impress myself with my level of play. I also have to keep in mind that out of all the people left on the team I am the youngest by a good year or two and by far the least experienced. The next person has at least 2-3 times the amount of experience that I have, which counts for a lot in this game. Heck the two captains of the team have a decade of experience each, while I only have one full touring season under my belt. So the fact that I was able to hang with the big boys for so long defo gives me a boost in confidence.

But that being said… last night I got the email I didn’t want to receive, I got cut. It really came down to a numbers game. There were 15 guys on the team before this past weekend and I think the final roster has about 10-12, so it just shows how narrowly I missed it. But with the cut I got an invite to be part of the practice squad and possibly play in the odd tourny if there are injuries on the team. So now I just need to sit down and figure out who I’m gonan play the summer touring season with. But don’t worry, I’ll keep you updated.
