Melbourne Cup

Yesterday the nation stopped for a horse race… you think I’m joking? Well there’s a horse race in Melbourne called the Melbourne Cup, naturally, and it’s the biggest single sporting event in Australia. You think I’m joking? The state that hosts the race, Victoria, actually gets a holiday! In the rest of the country they actually put a hold on businesses and schools to watch the race. It’s crazy, this year’s winner, Makybe Diva, was the first repeat winner in a while. The story behind the win is that the jockey broke his back two years ago and was told he’d never race again, now he’s won the biggest race in Australia two years in a row. Next stop the world.

In another note, I’m officially a quarter of a centrury old today. I get to celebrate by going to campus and doing school work, but on a good note, it’ll be my last class of my masters degree tonight. Hard to believe that this 1.5 year degree is almost done. Bring on my last two exams!
